First cause

Another student at my school found out I was an Atheist while we were at a banquet for marching band. The first thing he said was "I should have known with all the sexual remarks you make" Up until this point he had always laughed when I made a sexual joke and he is known for making quite a few crude jokes himself. The fact that I am an Atheist has nothing to do with my crude sense of humor, while the fact that I am a teenage boy does. His issue was that there is no rule book that I am going against when I make comments while he has to be a hypocrite anytime he says something dirty because his magic book tells him not to.
His next thought was "I have to try to convert you" I welcomed this as I always have, hoping he would have some new insight. I was strongly disappointed. All he offered was a very weak first cause argument. As an ex-apologetic christian I found this quite saddening that he had nothing better to offer.
Christian "where did you come from?"
Me "the sperm from my father and the egg from my mother"
C "where did they come from?"
M "the sperm from their fathers and the eggs from their mothers"
M "And before you continue they came from their fathers and mothers evolving from other animals which evolved from simple multi-celled organisms which evolved from single-celled organisms all by means of natural selection"
M "You are trying to make a first cause argument, which is a weak argument for theism in general and has no proof for Christianity over any other religion"
The conversation hit a dead end there but hopefully he will have stronger points next time we talk

Omnipotence

Omnipotence isn't something I really thought about until after I became an Atheist but it is something that led me to be a Strong-Atheist. Omnipotence is being all powerful, which is a claim people make about their gods. Now the paradox can arise when you ask what would happen if god made something so large he couldn't move it? Could god do that? If not he is not Omnipotent, if he can does that mean he loses his all powerful status? I would like to hear a christian take on this.

FaithUpdate 1

I do not believe in any god. I am confident a god does not exist. I have heard no strong arguments so far for any god. I think the god of the bible is immoral. I am still open to good arguments.

SaveMySoul-ConvertMe missionstatement

The SaveMySoul-ConvertMe mission is a simple one, to convert me to your belief system, and show atheists are willing to critically examine their beliefs and are not the evil creatures some religions make us out to be. I self identify with the label of Strong-Atheist. This means I actively do not believe in any supernatural beings such as God, but I am not dogmatic in my beliefs. This is the part where the believers come in, if you have strong arguments for your faith tell me about them at convertme@ymail.com If I am presented with strong enough evidence I will change my beliefs and I will not hesitate to help win over new converts. I would also like to request that you keep me in your prayers, a simple “help that convert me boy see the light” will do, but please no violent prayers because that may incite some people to act on them.

I will try at least every two weeks to give a “FaithUpdate” telling all of you where I am in a religious sense. My other posts will consist of thoughts on arguments for and against religion, my thoughts on world events which are related to faith, and if you state in your email you it is alright emails from people and my thoughts on what they have to say.

Now for a few ground rules

  • Please no threats
  • You are welcome to comment on my blog but please refrain from using foul language (I am not offended by it but some are)
  • Please send all emails to convertme@ymail.com
  • Please don’t spam my email (if I think it is spam I won’t open it)
  • In emails please specify if you want a private response of a public one on the blog
